The majority of the Dumaresq Reserve seawall failed due to erosion caused by wave action and required immediate rectification works. The construction involved the removal of the existing failed wall, the installation of a deep footing beam which was below sea level and required constant water pumping to maintain a dry working area, the installation of a new sandstone log seawall with concrete backing and stainless steel dowels through the capping stones, backfill and turf installation.
During the early stages of this project work could only be completed during low tide so programming of the works was essential to ensure Council’s nominated construction period was maintained.
