Enter Building Group was contracted by Northern Beaches Council to upgrade the existing playground. Funded by the NSW government’s ‘Everyone Can Play’ initiative, the objective of the new playground was to promote safe and inclusive play experiences for all ages and abilities. The scope of work consisted of:

  • Site clearing
  • Supply and installation of new shade sail structure, including footing design
  • Supply and installation of coloured concrete footpaths
  • Supply and installation of off-form concrete seating
  • Installation of play equipment and sandstone boulders (supply by Council)
  • Supply and installation of synthetic turf and rubber softfall surfaces
  • Supply and installation of softfall mulch
  • Supply and installation of playground fencing
  • Re-instatement of a drinking fountain and associated plumbing
  • Soft landscaping

The existing playground was completely demolished and removed from site. One of the main challenges that EBG encountered was working around tree roots. Existing fig trees were extensively rooted throughout the park, presenting difficulties with the proposed layout of the new play equipment and fencing. Nevertheless, EBG worked with Council and Arborist to cut back the root where required and modified the layout to suit the site condition.

The project was further challenged by unforeseen events such as COVID-19 related Health Orders, the Suez Canal Obstruction, and the record rainfall in November in Sydney. Despite such restraints on the project timeline, EBG liaised with Council and achieved practical completion by the agreed date.

Overall, the outcome of the project resulted in a huge improvement to the local community and years of family fun.
