Enter Building Group was contracted by City of Wollongong Council to carry out the bank stabilisation work at Whartons Creek. The objectives of the project were to underpin and enhance the existing pad footings of the bridge abutments that had been undermined by the creek scour over the years. The new armour rocks were designed to reduce the existing bank slope and the direct pressure at the toe to support the embankment better. The scope of work consisted of:
Over 500 tonnes of basalt rocks were imported for the revetment. Sediment controls such as silt curtains and sediment fencing were monitored throughout the construction period. The zone of influence was pegged out and the exclusion area was set up to protect Sydney Water’s vent shaft of the existing sewer line within the construction site.
Existing gabion mesh on the southern bank was resurfaced to extend its residual life. Enter Building Group ensured that construction works would not disturb the public access to the beach and cycle path next to the location of the works.
